Factions inplace of Towny?

Been looking at Factions and FactionsPlus to replace Towny. There is a lot of differences, but give users the ability to make their own guilds and choose which guilds to be allies and enemies of. Putting it simply. I'm still looking at it, but in the end, if we do change over, some players will have to relearn how to manage a protection area plugin again.

Updates and changes, oh my?

Been doing some work on the server, off and on while working and managing school and real life.

Currently working on the new world, MetaVerse. It is currently up and running. Anyone can visit it and begin claiming areas now.

xWarps has been updated, I'm trying to fix the per player creation limits, their timers, and pricing for user and creation.

We've removed a ton of SpoutBlocks that we are not using currently. I think I'll leave most out until we see them needed. Then add the certain ones as we need them.

How to become a Member or Higher

To become a member on the server. The following three requirements must be met.

Upon entering the server for the first time, you are at the lowest group. Default. To become a member is done a few simple steps. Some steps require common sense and patience.

The following is found ingame via /howmember. Each line will be lit up depending on what you have completed. It's a simple Step-By-Step procedure.

  1. Read the /rules
    1. It will bring up a list of rules 1-6 and your chat will show to the public that you are reading the rules for the first time.
    2. Please note: We have had one situation that not all the 1-6 rules show up. Let an Admin know and we will reload the plugin.
  2. Use the stated agree command in the /rules to agree.
    1. The command is fairly blunt to find.
    2. Upon using the command, you will be teleported the Testing Rooms.
  3.  Pass The Testing Rooms.
    1. Each room has 1 Question. 1 Correct Answer each.
    2. The rooms have 4-5 answers each.
    3. Read the question on the Glass/Diamond wall. Then step onto the Lapis Block that has the Correct Answer Sign on or above it.
    4. You can retry 3 times if you use the wrong answer.
    5. The questions are based on Common Sense and the /rules.
    6. You cannot read the /rules while taking the test.
  4. Once you pass the test, you are a Welcomed Member.
    1. A staff member of DP or Higher will run a command for the server to ask you for your age. This is done privately with /agestate #.
    2. If you are under the suggested age, you are put as a Full member, but staff will keep an eye on you to see if you are mature enough to stay on the server.
    3. If you are over the suggested age, you are a Full member and no staff will have to monitor you to see if you are mature. Your chatting on the other hand may say otherwise.
Any higher ranks will require Donations. To gain Staff Positions, this require users to be active on the server and being very mature. They must also be helping players. Asking for staff positions will be ignored. If a staff member has suggested you as DP membership and the player asks about it, the player has lost their chance.

MetaVerse Coming Together.

With the current new test run of MetaVerse, the new World System name, everything is coming along nicely. In one more day, the world will be deleted, regenerated up to 5 levels (10240x10240), Regions for the DMZ, PVP Warzones, and Nation Boundaries. I will also begin placing new Catacombs, hopefully larger and more challenging. Currently only Server Staff have first picks of locations of their choices.

DMZ, PVP Warzone, and Nation Regions will be shown on dynmap, in different colors, and have flags set to notify players when Player has entered/left the region. I thought this would make things fun. Might add a server rule subnote to the chat spam rule about spamming the chat with entering/leaving the area repeatedly, over and over and over again, in a 10 second period of time.

May 1st I will begin clearing out old plugin configs that are no longer in use along with updating large settings in current plugins. On May 1st ALL warps (as in teleport locations that use the command /warp to access) will be deleted. Many of which will be old warps from the old world systems.

All dynmap caves will not be shown unless they have been lit by a form of light. Simply put, if not lit by light, generally they have not been discovered by another player. So any undiscovered caves will not show up on dynmap. Known possible bugs is cave entrances lit by lava or sun will possibly show up. Dynmap will no longer be rendering in HD. It will now render the tiles in low resolution and not as many tiles to zoom in. With the world now going to be 10240x10240 big, many tile images will take up a lot of harddrive storage space. Having the tiles in a lower resolution will also make rendering much quicker and less intensive on the server's CPU.

There has been talk about completely removing the xWarp plugin. This will leave players to walk, boat, and minecart all around. The only teleporting plugins remaining, and planned to stay are: /home, Town Spawn Teleport, /spawn, and spawning at your last slept in bed upon death.

If anything, xWarp will be left in use for a wider range of set Global warps that server staff can then manually set Prices and Timers. Such warps will then be placed at attractions, events, and popular areas for ease of access.

The reason for the removal of the xwarp system is this: The plugin is rarely maintained by it's author. Players currently can Create as many warps as they want, Use the warp however often the want, and all free. There has been too many cases of players being lazy and inconsiderate of making warps of far too general or commonly named. Ex: home, mine, bed. It has been requested of players not to do this. Players are now stating that this should be in the rules. It should not be as we can not have this maintained server side. Server staff would have to keep an eye on the server log and catch any of such warps, request the player to update the name of it or remove it. There has also been cases of too many warps in the same general area. This of which is inefficient. Players are also having a hard time finding their own warps, making them go through pages of pages of warps. This of which can be easily fixed if players made a limited number of warps and understood the '/warp list o:(warpOwnerName)' feature mentioned in the xwarp's link on the plugins page.

All teleporting of any kind will have a fee. Though small prices, it will discourage people using teleporting commands just to cover short distances. Teleporting commands such as /home and /spawn will cost 10McDough, while possible global warps will vary from 3-45 or more. Teleporting to/from players will also cost, but only to the person making the request. If a player uses /tpa (player) they will send the request and be charged 15McDough. Please note: Last tested of the charging for /home, /spawn and /tpa with little to no money will put the player in the negative money balance. Be warned.

I'm pretty sure I've overlooked many details that I have discussed with the server staff, so I'll add more to this post or future posts.

Reported Bugs Not to Exploit

Some features on the server, along with it's vanilla fun of bugs, glitches, and plugins having their fair share.
The following list is known bugs that we can not fix or block. These will be enforced by Server staff starting the first of May. Some of these bugs are not necessary bugs on the server, but unintentional features that can't be blocked or stopped.

Known bugs:
  • Warps
    1. Warps Limits for all Members and Up.
      • Players are Not allowed to make more than 15 warps. Currently all players are  Unable to put in a solid block server side. Will have to be maintained be server staff. Anyone making more than 15 warps will have their newest warps deleted without notice.
    2.  Cooldown/Warmup timers are 5 seconds to use and after use.
      • Currently players are able to warp at a moment's notice. Players who warp too frequently in a 10 second period will be jailed for 5 minutes.
    3. All warps created and used have a Fee
      • Currently all warps are free of charge for use and creation. No penalty at this time.

Manually Downloading the Spout Item/Block files

We no longer accept this. We have been having issues with players not seeing the right textures. You will have to log in to the server to download the textures. Some times repeated logins will be required if you are on a slow internet connection.

----====----

Some users may have very slow internet speeds to download all the files needed for the non-vanilla items/blocks. I have made a quick copy of the cache folder of all the items on the server that are normally downloaded from the server. With these files in your spoutcraft folder, they will not be downloaded from the server, as they already exist.

Instructions below can be found in the ReadMe in the .zip.

The files in this zip file contains a quick cache copy of my own for the mcden minecraft server for spoutcraft users.
http://www.planetminecraft.com/server/mcden-247-10slot-50-plugins-greylist/
http://m-c-den.blogspot.com/

These files are to help shorten the time for new players to join the server for the first time with SpoutCraft.
 - If these files are not in the cache folder, they will be downloaded from the server either way. While these files
are being downloaded, the SpoutCraft client will then act very slow or even time out. Stay on the server as long
as you can to download the files. If knocked from the server, just rejoin to finish downloading the files.

The method is similar to adding files to your minecraft. Instead of visiting the .minecraft folder, visit the .spoutcraft folder.
Then go to spoutcraft > cache. Place the folders from the .zip into the cache folder and you are good to go.

If you have never accessed your MineCraft folder before:

Place the folders inside the .zip into your:
C:\Users\ <user name> \AppData\Roaming\.spoutcraft\spoutcraft\cache
 - If you can not find the AppData folder
Click Start and type %appdata% and hit enter. Open .spoutcraft, then spoutcraft (no this is not a typo), then cache.
Place the folders in this .zip into the cache folder. You should see three new folders: ExtraFurnaces, MoreMaterials, and SuperCapes.
Any other folders found there can be ignored.

      Many Changes and Updates

Many things have been changed and updated in the last week or so.
New Furnaces added. Using Spoutcraft 1357, you can make Iron, Gold, and Diamond furnaces.
      - To make one of these and gain their benefits, place a stone furnace in the center of a crafting table, surround it in iron ingots. Now you have an iron furnaces. Do the same with the iron furnace to make the gold, then the same with the gold furnace to make a diamond. Details on ExtraFurnaces page.

More Materials is working! Finally! Many new blocks and items added. Many can not be created as of yet. All useable when in Creative Mode. So visit the Creative world, open your inventory, scroll down past the Armor and you'll see all the new blocks and items!

NOTE: Joining the server may seem laggy at first. Your client is loading all the textures of the new items and blocks. This will only happen once until all textures are loaded. Once all textures are loaded, logging into the server will be normal again for you. Logging in for all new textures may time 1-3 times to get all textures loaded.

New world in the making, viewable via Dynmap under 'LostWorld' and visitable from the MCDen down portal, found on the second floor of the Subway Station building.
This new world is just a test run, any and all changes will be removed once the world generation is acceptable by most players at least. Suggestions on the biomes and the name of the new world is welcome!

I think that covers it. Anything I missed I'll add to this post, anything after today I'll just make a new post.

      Beta Spoutcraft Launcher

The Spout Team is working on a new, faster, easier launcher and has released a beta release.
      Forum Thread

This launcher is faster, but currently some draw backs. To start the client, you have to go old school and use a .bat file. It's simple to set up. Back in the day, they kept things simple and small.

Note: This guide is based on a Win7 64bit desktop computer and a Win7 32bit laptop. Comment if this guide did not follow your setup exactly. If you found a way around to have it work, please state and I will add it with credit.

      - Download the SpoutCraft Snapshot file from the top/main post of the thread linked at the top of this post.
      Save .jar to the desktop.
      - Right click on the desktop > New > Text Document. Not rich text document. You want a notepad file text document.

      - When it makes the file on the desktop, it should have the name of: New Text Document.txt .  Rename it to something like SpoutCraft Launcher.bat. Remember to have .bat, not .txt at the end.
      - Note: It is suggested, for this guide, have the .jar and .bat files in the same area. As in both on the desktop, or same folder.

IF the .txt is not at the end when you first create the text document, do the following:
      1. Open a folder screen. Ex: Open My Documents
      2. Go to the top of the window and click Tools > Folder Options. May have to hit the ALT key on the keyboard to show menu for File, Edit, View, etc..
      3. Click the View tab at the top, scroll down and uncheck the box next to "Hide extensions to known file types".
      4. Click Ok. Now all files will have a dot extension.
      - Right click the new .bat file and click edit. Should open in a notepad window.
      • Windows 32bit users:
        • Copy and paste this into the window: "%ProgramFiles%\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" -jar spoutcraft-launcher.jar
        • Change the spoutcraft-launcher.jar part to the name of the .jar you saved to your desktop.
      • Windows 64bit users:
        • Copy and paste this into the window: "%ProgramFiles(86)%\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" -jar spoutcraft-launcher.jar
        • Change the spoutcraft-launcher.jar part to the name of the .jar you saved to your desktop.
      - Save the file and double click the .bat file. When it starts, you should see two windows come up. A MSDos like screen, cmd.exe in the title bar, then the SpoutCraft launcher. DO NOT CLOSE THE cmd.exe Window. It will close when you close SpoutCraft.

Note: There is now Option button to choose any options. More information on this is on the forum post.
